Well it took more than a year but it now seems a few people are actually using my WiiToMidi software to do some fun things. And they're posting YouTube videos which I've linked on the page. Woo!
WiiToMidi was a little app I wrote to interface the Nintendo Wii remote to MIDI so that you could control music applications. I wasn't really sure what people would do with it, but it seems to be catching on in interesting ways. My personal favorite thus far is "Japanese DVJ group Cobalt Bomb Alpha Omega"'s demo of interfacing WiiToMidi with a custom AudioUnit plugin they wrote to create vinyl scratching effects. That's hot. I'm so glad they dropped me a line cuz there is no way I'd have found the video otherwise. After dmg recommended QuadraSID I immediately dropped some cash to buy it and it is gold, I tell you. Never have my square waves sounded so rich and juicy. 4x oversampling! It manages a good balance between sounding like a cheap-ass lo-fi C64 and an expensive analogue synth thanks to added new features that weren't available in the time of the C64. Programming new sounds into the thing is total voodoo but I'm up for the challenge and the manual is pretty reasonable. Best feature so far: envelopes and LFOs that can be smooth as talc or granular as rock salt depending on how you like it. Check the track in the intro. It sucks but it was fun to make. Also bought myself an Akai MPD24 for programming PHAT BEATS. It's pretty nice. Way easier than trying to program drums with the keyboard. Things things things. What else is going on in my life besides these things I own and these things I've made? Maybe a little, maybe a lot. But I'll keep mum. Life deals me great hands but I bet too much at the flop, get screwed at the turn, and find myself broke at the river. Gotta watch for that. No, I'm not gambling, that was a metaphor.
